Gibbston Valley
The Queenstown Wine Trail offers a fun, personalised and friendly
sightseeing wine tour of vineyards and wineries in New Zealand’s
foremost wine regions – Queenstown and Central Otago.
We offer daily wine tours and private
tours exploring the fast growing
wine area of Gibbston Valley, and selected Central Otago wineries around Bannockburn.
We keep our wine tours small and travelling time to a minimum so guests
can taste a variety of wines while relaxing at award winning wineries.
In the Queenstown region, the wineries we may visit include Gibbston Valley
Winery, Amisfield Cellars at Lake Hayes, Peregrine Winery, Waitiri Creek
Wines, Chard Farm, Wine House & Kitchen.
Travelling further into the Central Otago region on our Private
Bannockburn Tour, we stop at the unique ‘Big Picture’ experience where
you can explore the aroma room and enjoy a virtual wine flight. Wineries
we may visit include Carrick, Mt Difficulty, Akarua, Olssen’s, Wooing Tree, Aurum, Rockburn and Central Otago Wine Company
Felton Road.
Gibbston Valley Wines released the region’s first commercial wine
vintage in 1987. Since then the region and its several vineyards have become
famous for producing premium wines, particularly pinot noir.
Winemaking at 45 south is an adventurous business. The vineyards are
at high altitude and subject to cold winters, hot dry summers, and a huge
night to day temperature range. Such adversity has led to pioneering winemaking,
consistently superb wines, worldwide recognition and a plethora of international
awards.
Each winery in Queenstown and Central Otago is a unique reflection of
the pioneering spirit and passion for wine common to the local
winemakers and viticulturalists.
The
Central Otago wine region has become especially well-known
for its award winning Pinot Noir. Other locally produced varieties
include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and
Methode Traditional.
